The WeHo Awards 2010
Last night The Weho Awards took place at the Playboy Mansion. I was nominated for Best Photographer, but my reason for attending the event had more to do with the venue than the actual awards.
Today we are learning how the award show organizers managed to piss off many West Hollywood gays... Oh, something to do with nominees and sponsors being charged up to $1,000 to attend despite the fact that they were nominees and sponsors. Because of this several of winners weren't in attendance to accept their award... Also, many of the nominees had no clue they were even nominated or that there was even a show. Producers of The Weho Awards must have slept through Award Show 101... Even I knew better and I'm just a pornographer.
Anyway, with that being said, I had a blast. I stuffed my face with good food, played with monkeys, got trashed at the open bar, took photos with my cock out on the front lawn, and lost my underwear in the grotto (that's all I am admitting to). For me the actual show was just background noise for my party. So, if there were issues there (and I don't know), I didn't notice them because as usual I was somewhere else having a blast when the drama went down... However, I did managed to be to accept the award for Best Adult Website (RandyBlue.com). All in all... it was a great night.

There's plenty of people in the industry that I look up to (behind the scenes included) but to list a few I'd have to say, Jack Wrangler and all the vintage hotties of course, Peter Berlin for practically being a one man show, and I know you said "gay" but I feel like I have to mention Jenna Jameson because I just admire how she handled her path in the industry and made such a business out of it. They're all inspiring to me that's for sure!
Do you see yourself in the adult industry in years to come?
I think so... can't really say what I'll actually be doing but I definitely hope to still be involved in the industry in some way. As far as my previous work, that will always be out there so in that sense I know I'll be around for years to come. Once a pornstar always a pornstar right.

Oh god, I'm sure if I watch them all I could find plenty I would like to have disappear but what's the fun in that? It's all part of my story in this business and I like that idea. Plus do you think I would really point out the video(s) I don't want anyone to know about... I don't think so.
Do you watch your own movies?
I'm actually trying to go back and watch them all now. I usually get so critical about it and just think about things like where my arm should have went instead and things like that, so it's never as much fun to watch myself. But recently I have felt like it might be good either way, because I can either study them to see what I can improve on, or just enjoy myself and shoot a ton of loads. Win win... I think so.
If someone were to come up to you and say, What do you do for a
living?, how would you explain it? What would you say?
I do run across this question pretty frequently and It's still funny because sometimes it can be such an awkward one for me to answer. More so awkward for them because they don't know what to say after. I usually end up saying something like, I currently work in the adult industry and then just see what they say from there. Of course that usually tends to spark a million questions. Another funny thing is, I'm not exactly sure when I'll actually feel like a "pornstar" so that sometimes causes hesitation in my response.
How often are you recognized out as porn star Derrek Diamond?
I live in SF so it happens pretty often actually. One funny thing I've noticed is that the fans of gay porn are made up of all types of people. I've had women come up to me before because they recognize me and that always throws me off. I also feel like SF is so tiny so most people are aware.
What is next for Derrek Diamond?
I'm currently working with Raging Stallion to set up my website. I hope to build off of that and would love to start working in other facets of the industry as well. Now that I'm a RSS exclusive it will allow me more time to focus on the business aspects and I'm also looking forward to starting to teach group exercise and enjoying some of my other hobbies again.
What is some advice you'd give to a fresh face who wants to get into the business?
There's so many things I would have loved to be told when I was starting out and actually I had some great mentors so I was lucky. I will say this, make sure you take the time to really think about your name and persona because that will be with you forever. I think it's important to always have a voice along the way and follow your gut, because there might be times when you want to speak up and say something but feel scared or out of place but it's your "company name" now and you should have a say too. Also pay attention to your surroundings, learn as much as you can from everyone because there's a lot of knowledge (amongst some other things) flying around so put your arm out and grab on. The internet make this world such a small one.

2010 TLAgay Awards
It seems that the 2010 award season is in full swing for the gay porn industry and everyone is getting in on the act. TLAgay.com has just announced their 2010 tlagay AWARDS. Nominees have been announced and you can now vote for your favorites. TLA isn't taking themselves too seriously, but as the largest gay porn retailer in North America they know what gets fans/cusumers off. The GayVNs are Back On
AVN just announced that the 2010 GayVN Award show is back on (scheduled for April). The good news is that they have also expanded their categories to include more website driven porn. They even have added a Best Blog/Gossip Site category (I'm totally a shoe in) to the list. No offense to the Grabby's but I was going to miss the GayVN's- I always seem to have a great time even though I spend most of the time at the bar instead of in my seat.
